This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Uwase Mart collects, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the Uwase Mart website and mobile application.

1. Who is responsible for your data

2. What we collect

• Contact and order details: your name, phone number, and (if you provide it) email address.
• Delivery information: your delivery address and the map location you select for a delivery.
• Order history: the products you buy, amounts, payment method, and order status.
• Account information: if you register, your password (stored only in encrypted form) and any saved addresses.
• Payment status: whether a Mobile Money payment succeeded or failed. We do not store your Mobile Money PIN or card numbers.
• Device information: if you use our app and enable notifications, a push token so we can send order updates; plus basic technical data needed to run the service.
• Consent choices: whether you agreed to receive marketing, and when you accepted these terms.

3. How we use your data

• To take, confirm, and deliver your orders, including sending order and delivery updates.
• To verify your phone number by one-time code (OTP) for Cash on Delivery orders.
• To process payments through MTN Mobile Money and to record Cash on Delivery orders.
• To provide customer support and handle returns, refunds, and complaints.
• To run the Ishimwe points and rewards programme for registered customers.
• To send marketing offers and updates, only if you have chosen to receive them.
• To keep the service secure, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet our legal obligations.

4. Our legal basis

We process your data to perform the contract when you place an order, to meet legal obligations, for our legitimate interest in running and securing the service, and, for marketing, on the basis of your consent.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only as needed to run the service, with:

• Delivery staff and riders, to deliver your order.
• MTN Mobile Money, to process mobile payments.
• Our SMS provider (Africa's Talking) and email provider, to send order and, where you opted in, marketing messages.
• Our hosting and technology providers, who process data on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
• Authorities or advisors where required by law.

6. Marketing and your choices

Marketing messages are optional. If you did not opt in, we will only contact you about your orders. You can withdraw your marketing consent at any time by contacting us or using the unsubscribe option in a message; this does not affect order-related messages.

7. How long we keep your data

We keep order and account data for as long as your account is active and as long as needed to fulfil orders, provide support, and meet legal, accounting, and tax requirements. When it is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.

8. How we protect your data

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption of passwords and restricted access to personal data. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond quickly to any incident.

9. Your rights

You may ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to stop using it for marketing. To delete your account and associated data, use our account deletion request page or contact info@uwase.rw. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

On the website we use a small number of essential cookies, including a cart token that lets guests keep a shopping cart, and a session cookie for signed-in customers. These are needed for the site to work.

11. Children

Uwase Mart is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, please contact us and we will remove it.

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is shown by the "Last updated" date above.
